Prospective dairy farmers have until April 1 to apply for an innovative program, now entering its ninth year, to help them establish their own grass-based dairy farms in Wisconsin.

Retired Columbia County extension agent Rudy Van Fleet received a Short Course Service to Agriculture Award at the 2003 Farm and Industry Short Course Reunion, held Jan. 25 in Madison.

Lynndon A. Brooks, emeritus professor of agricultural engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, died Dec. 27, 2002 at his home in Madison. He was 77 years old.

Interim Farm and Industry Short Courses will be offered the weeks of Jan. 6-10 and Jan. 13-17 at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

The Wisconsin Cheese Grading Short Course, an intensive two-day course covering the principles and practices involved in grading natural cheeses, will be held November 5-6 at the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Babcock Hall.

Applications for the 2002-2003 session of the Wisconsin School for Beginning Dairy Farmers on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus must be received by Oct. 1. Classes begin Nov. 11 and run through March 28, 2003.

The 9th annual Fruits, Flowers & Vegetables Twilight Tour will be held Monday, Aug. 12 at the Hancock Agricultural Research Station. Activities begin at 5 p.m. and end at dusk.
