    Grass-Based Dairying Seminar Offered Around The State

    People interested in starting grass-based dairy farms won’t have to travel long distances to learn from current graziers and other grass-based dairy specialists. A Distance Education project based at the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s College of Agricultural and Life Sciences will allow students to “meet” with the experts at county UW-Extension offices and on their home computers. The seminar will be taught at the Animal Sciences building on the CALS campus, with audio and synchronized PowerPoint visuals transmitted over the Internet to county offices and home PCs.

    UW-Madison’s Satter Receives American Dairy Science Assocation Award Of Honor

    Larry Satter, a dairy nutritionist at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the USDA Dairy Forage Research Center, has received the 1999 Award of Honor from the American Dairy Science Association. The award, which is the highest honor given by the ADSA, recognized Satter’s exceptional and long-term contributions to the group.

    John Hansen of LaCrosse, founder of the Kwik Trip chain of convenience stores, and his wife, Donna, have donated $350,000 to the UW Foundation to renovate the dairy store in Babcock Hall at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
