Swine Research And Teaching Center Dedication August 26 At Arlington Research Station
Pork producers and the general public are invited to a dedication ceremony for the new University of Wisconsin Swine Research and Teaching Center, Wednesday, Aug. 26, at the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences Arlington Agricultural Research Station. The $3.9 million, 35,580 square-foot center stands on the site of the old swine research facility, which was destroyed by a fire in December 1995.

Dairy Science Instruction at UW-Madison …Muddy Boots And Micromanipulators
Hands-on laboratories in the campus dairy barn have long been a part of the dairy science introductory course. Students in lab sections work with faculty, graduate students and senior undergraduates in a wide array of hands-on experiences — from handling cows in the barnyard to micromanipulating embryos in reproductive physiology labs. Likewise, the dairy herd management course makes extensive use of farm visits, and offers an optional visit to western dairies over spring break.

Elton D. “Abe” Aberle, Dean of the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, has been named a Fellow of the American Society of Animal Science.

CALS Dairy Scientist Wins Animal Breeding Award
Margaret R. Dentine, a dairy scientist at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, has received the J. L. Lush Award in Animal Breeding in recognition of her outstanding research accomplishments in dairy cattle breeding.

Donald R. Peterson, Former UW-Madison Extension Leader, Dead At 73
Donald R. Peterson, emeritus professor of agronomy at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, died of a heart attack Saturday, Aug. 8 in Madison. He was 73 years old.

Michelle Miller Named Coordinator Of Pesticide Use And Risk-Reduction Project
Michelle Miller, a Wisconsin native, has been selected by the steering committee of the Wisconsin Pesticide Use and Risk Reduction Project to coordinate its three-year effort to find alternatives to pesticides targeted by the Food Quality Protection Act.
