Wilfrid Turba, Dave Dickson and the Wisconsin Public Service Corporation will be honored for their contributions to the University of Wisconsin-Madison Farm and Industry Short Course at its annual alumni reunion Jan. 24 in Madison.

While many people merely lament the decline in numbers of new farmers and the subsequent decline of family farms numbers in Wisconsin, the Wisconsin School for Beginning Dairy Farmers is taking steps to help energetic young people enter farming as a profession.

The University of Wisconsin-Madison dairy cattle judging team placed second in the judging contest at the North American International Livestock Exposition. Jason Koerth of Brillion was the high individual judge in the contest, and the team was high in Reasons, Ayrshires and Guernseys. The UW-Madison team trailed Cal Poly by eight points.

The University of Wisconsin-Madison dairy cattle judging team won the National Dairy Cattle Judging Contest Sept. 30 at World Dairy Expo in Madison. The team took first in Reasons, Holsteins and Milking Shorthorns, second in Ayrshires, third in Brown Swiss and Guernseys, and ninth in Jerseys.
