Herbert Named Assistant Dean For Minority/Disadvantaged Students At CALS
Bill Hebert Jr. has been named assistant dean for minority and disadvantaged students at the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, University of Wisconsin-Madison. He will begin his duties Oct. 30.

One of this summer’s blockbuster movies was The Perfect Storm — a story about a tremendous hurricane that pounded the Atlantic seaboard and changed the lives of thousands of people. Here at Kemp Station we had a storm of our own. And although it wasn’t a hurricane, it significantly changed life around here.

UW-Madison Student Wins Harrisburg Dairy Cattle Judging Contest
Brian Kelroy of Fond du Lac, a junior majoring in dairy science and agricultural economics, took high individual overall at the 32nd All American Dairy Show Invitational Youth Dairy Cattle Judging Contest. The University of Wisconsin-Madison judging team placed fourth out of 14 national university teams in the collegiate division of the contest, held Sept. 25 at Harrisburg, Pa. The Badger team finished 8 points behind first place University of Illinois.

Rounding Up The Genes For Twinning In Cattle
Beef and dairy producers who want to control twinning rates may soon get some help. Researchers have identified three regions of the cattle genome that contribute to an increased frequency of double ovulation in the animals.

UW-Madison Experts Find New Soybean Pest In Wisconsin
A new soybean pest has appeared in fields scattered across Wisconsin during the past month, according to University of Wisconsin-Madison scientists. The soybean aphid also has turned up in northern Illinois and may soon be reported from Michigan.
