A team of dairy cattle judges from the University of Wisconsin-Madison took second place overall at the Intercollegiate Dairy Cattle Judging Contest, held Nov. 9 at the 2003 North American International Livestock Exposition in Louisville, Ky. The UW-Madison team scored 2,094 points – 3 points behind first place California Polytechnic State University. The Madison team was 1st in Brown Swiss, 2nd in oral reasons, 3rd in Jerseys, and 4th in Guernseys.

The Wisconsin 4-H team placed third high team overall at the Youth Dairy Cattle Judging Contest held Nov. 9 at the 2003 North American International Livestock Exposition, Louisville, Ky. Pennsylvania 4-H won the contest, followed by Michigan 4-H; 21 4-H and FFA youth teams competed.

Richard Daluge, an assistant dean at the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s College of Agricultural and Life Sciences and director of the Farm and Industry Short Course, has been nominated by the Wisconsin Association of FFA, Inc. to receive the Honorary American FFA Degree. The award is given to those who advance agricultural education and FFA through outstanding personal commitment.

Tom Agnew of Marengo, Ill., a senior majoring in dairy science, was second high individual overall and 6th in oral reasons.

Dennis R. Buege, professor and Extension meat scientist at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, received the 2003 American Meat Science Association Signal Service Award June 18 at the 56th Annual Reciprocal Meat Conference in Columbia, Mo. The AMSA Signal Service Award is given to members in recognition of devoted service and lasting contributions to the meat industry and to the association.
