Reduced Herbicide Rates, Timely Cultivation As Effective As Full Rates
Reduced herbicide rates plus cultivation can be as effective as full herbicide rates, say researchers at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. A four-year study at the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences Arlington Agricultural Research Station showed that reduced rates integrated with cultivation decreased the annual weed seedbank in several tillage systems while maintaining crop yield.

Rotational Grazing Most Practical Way To Help Trout Streams And Streambanks, Study Shows
Rotational grazing may be the best of both worlds, say researchers at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. The researchers have finished comparing the ecological effects of grassy buffer strips, woody buffer strips, continuous grazing and rotational grazing along trout streams.

Bacteriologist Receives National Award For Undergraduate Teaching
Kenneth Todar, a senior lecturer in the Department of Bacteriology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, will receive the 1998 Carski Foundation Distinguished Teaching Award from the American Society for Microbiology on May 20 at the society’s annual meeting in Atlanta.

Dane County Executive Announces Land Use Wrap-Up Session
Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk has announced a wrap-up meeting for the Dane County Land Use Workshop series that ended last month. The four-part workshop series brought hundreds of Dane County citizens together to discuss options for improving the way Dane County is growing. The session will be Wednesday, March 11 from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at the Dane County Expo Center.
