Deadline For Farm Short Course Is October 1

Students have until Oct. 1 to register for the Farm and Industry Short Course at the University of Wisconsin-Madison”s College of Agricultural and Life Sciences.

Instruction for the first six-week session begins Nov. 10. A four-week session begins Jan. 20, and the final six-week session starts Feb. 9, ending with graduation March 28.

More than 130 students usually enroll, according to Rick Daluge, CALS assistant dean and director of the short course. Students can choose from 45 agricultural production courses in specialties such as dairy farm management, beef/swine management, farm mechanics, farm service and supply, and crops and soils. Practical on-the-job experience is available through internships again this year.

Dormitory accommodations are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Tuition for Wisconsin residents is $1,350.80, and students will need about $150 for books. Short Course scholarships totaling nearly $40,000 have been awarded by the College, and many local businesses give additional financial aid.
