Apple video features CALS biochemist

Julie Mitchell, assistant professor in the Department of Biochemistry and the Department of Mathematics, is one of several UW-Madison faculty members featured in a video on the Apple website. The video focuses on innovative uses of technology for instruction and research.

In her segment, Mitchell gives insight into how technology fits into her research.

“Our research goal is to develop computational tools that allow us to study the structure and function of biomolecules,” she explains. “That becomes very computationally intensive. We use high performance computing on x-serve machines to search through possible configurations for the molecules, then we try to generate accurate mathematical models that can predict the behavior of systems.”
