UW-Madison Competes At All-American Dairy Judging Contest

A team of judges from the UW-Madison Dairy Cattle Judging Team competed at the 39th Annual All-American Collegiate Judging Contest on September 17, 2007 in Harrisburg, PA. The team placed 9th overall of the 19 teams competing with a total score of 1962 points. The team also earned 5th place in the Oral Reasons portion of the contest, was 5th in Brown Swiss and 5th in Holsteins.

Ted Halbach, Dairy Cattle Evaluation Instructor and Dr. Dave Dickson, emeritus professor of Dairy Science, coached the team.

“Win or lose things happen in a contest that you have no control over – what”s important though is that you learn from your experience,” said Halbach. “I thought we prepared well and overall had a positive learning experience, which is really what participation in dairy judging is all about.”
