A team of dairy cattle judges from the University of Wisconsin-Madison took second place at the 38th All American Dairy Show Invitational Youth Dairy Cattle Judging Contest, Sept. 18 at Harrisburg, Pa. The Badger team placed 3 points behind the 1st place Penn State team, and was 1st in Linear Evaluation, 1st Brown Swiss, 2nd in Holsteins, 3rd in Jerseys, and 4th in Oral Reasons. Thirteen national university teams competed.
For the second year in a row the Badgers had the high individual in the contest as UW junior Chrissy Wendorf claimed this honor. The All-American is Wendorf”s second high individual collegiate performance. She also topped the 2005 Accelerated Genetics Contest in Viroqua, Wis.

Kelsi Hendrickson – Belleville, Wis. – Dairy Science and Ag Journalism – Junior
Ted Halbach, dairy cattle evaluation instructor, and Dave Dickson, emeritus professor of dairy science, coached the team.
“I was really proud of the way our group of mostly juniors competed against the other school”s Expo teams,” said Halbach.
Halbach also praised UW”s high individual Chrissy Wendorf, “I couldn”t be more pleased of the job Chrissy did at Harrisburg. Working as my intern this summer you could tell she just knows when it comes to evaluating type, I think this contest should only give her more confidence going into next season.”
