Enrollment deadline for Farm Short Course is Oct. 1

Prospective students have until Oct. 1 to register for the 2004-2005 Farm and Industry Short Course at the University of Wisconsin-Madison”s College of Agricultural and Life Sciences.

Registration and orientation will be held Oct. 21. The first six-week session begins Nov. 8, the second session begins Jan. 18, and the final session starts Feb. 7, ending with graduation March 18.

Short Course attracts about 125 students from the United States and several foreign countries, according to Rick Daluge, CALS assistant dean and director of the short course. Students can choose from more than 40 agricultural production courses in specialties such as dairy farm management, beef/swine management, farm mechanics, farm service and supply, and crops and soils. Practical on-the-job experience is available through internships again this year.

Dormitory accommodations are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The College awarded Short Course scholarships totaling about $70,000 last year, and many local businesses give additional financial aid.
