A team of 4-H dairy cattle judges from Wisconsin took first place with the high team overall score at the 35th All American Dairy Show Invitational Youth Dairy Cattle Judging Contest, Sept. 22 at Harrisburg, Pa. Joe Sarbacker of Verona was second high individual overall and 4th in Brown Swiss.
The Wisconsin 4-Hers placed high team overall with 1,912 points, two points ahead of the 2nd place Pennsylvania 4-H team. Out of the 14 teams competing, the Wisconsin 4-Hers placed 1st in Jerseys, 2nd in Guernseys, 4th in Brown Swiss and Holsteins, and 5th in Reasons. This is the second winning Wisconsin 4-H team in the 35 years of the competition.
In addition to Joe Sarbacker, team members included Vicki Cooper of DeForest (7th High Individual Overall and 4th in Jerseys), Ben Sarbacker of Verona, and Kelly Sime of Stoughton.
Mitch Breunig of Prairie Du Sac, Eric Olstad of Stoughton, Cheryl Marti of Sun Prairie, and Dan Brehmer of De Forest coached the team. Dane County finished second at the State 4-H Dairy Judging Contest Aug. 6, earning the opportunity to represent Wisconsin at the Pennsylvania contest.
