A milk pasteurization and process control certification course will be held Aug. 20-21 at the Babcock Dairy Plant on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus.
The course will focus on spoilage and pathogenic bacteria, properly operating and maintaining automated equipment and pumps, various pasteurization systems and their components, CIP systems, and proper cleaning and sanitation.
Classwork and small-group discussions in lab sessions will cover pasteurization requirements and controls, equipment testing and verification, HACCP, process controls for CIP, and plant design for optimum control.
Students who successfully complete the course will meet Wisconsin requirements for certified pasteurizer operators, as well as the requirements specified by the Pasteurized Milk Ordinance for the formal training of industry pasteurizer operators.
