Badger Dairy Cattle Judges Place First At Mid-South Fair
University of Wisconsin-Madison judging teams took first and fourth place at the Southern Intercollegiate Dairy Cattle Judging Contest, Sept. 30 at Memphis, Tenn. A team of Badger seniors placed third at the National Collegiate Dairy Cattle Judging Contest at World Dairy Expo in Madison.

School For Beginning Dairy Farmers Applications Due October 23
The Wisconsin School for Beginning Dairy Farmers offers qualified students the chance to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison Farm and Industry Short Course, special training sessions, seminars in the management of grazing-based dairy farms, farm internships, mentoring by experienced graziers and UW faculty, classroom and field experience, and the potential for future support and training.

A recent University of Wisconsin-Madison study found that most Wisconsin farmers over-apply nitrogen and phosphorus to their corn fields although applying the correct amount would save them money and reduce harm to surface and ground water.

UW-Madison Student Wins Harrisburg Dairy Cattle Judging Contest
Brian Kelroy of Fond du Lac, a junior majoring in dairy science and agricultural economics, took high individual overall at the 32nd All American Dairy Show Invitational Youth Dairy Cattle Judging Contest. The University of Wisconsin-Madison judging team placed fourth out of 14 national university teams in the collegiate division of the contest, held Sept. 25 at Harrisburg, Pa. The Badger team finished 8 points behind first place University of Illinois.
