Jefferson County 4-H Dairy Cattle Juding Team Places Second Overall At Pennsylvania Contest

The Jefferson County 4-H dairy cattle judging team placed second overall out of 14 teams at the Pennsylvania All-American Invitational 4-H Youth Dairy Cattle Judging Contest, Sept. 20 at Harrisburg, Pa.

The team was one point behind the winning team from Maryland, and placed first in Guernseys and Linear Evaluation, second in Holsteins and Jerseys, and fifth in Ayrshires.

Individual awards and team members were Kylene Cook of Fort Atkinson, third high individual, second in Guernseys and ninth in Linear Evaluation; Laurie Winkelman of Watertown, sixth high individual, second in Linear Evaluation, and third in Guernseys and Jerseys; Katie Cramer of Watertown; and Mark Lundy of Jefferson.

The team was coached by Roy Hetts of Fort Atkinson and Gerrit DeBruin and Maureen DeBruin of Lake Mills.

This team finished third at the Wisconsin State 4-H Dairy Cattle Judging contest. Usually, the second-place team from this competition competes at the Pennsylvania All-American Contest. However, Sauk County finished second in the state contest this year and had competed at Harrisburg in 1998, and was unable to repeat as Wisconsin”s representative.
