UW-Madison Short Course Dairy Team Wins At Expo
The University of Wisconsin-Madison Short Course Dairy Cattle Judging team placed first in the practical contest and first in reasons in the traditional post-secondary dairy cattle judging contest at this year”s World Dairy Expo. Overall, the Short Course team placed third among 20 teams representing two-year colleges from across the country. Morrisville, NY and Modesto Jr. College, Calif. placed first and second respectively.
Team members included Mark Lundy, Jefferson; Mandi Puttkamer, Baraboo; Gail Wubbenhorst, Westby; and Susan Richardson, Fawn Grove, Pa.
Puttkamer was sixth high individual overall in the contest and placed first in oral reasons. Richardson was third in oral reasons and Lundy placed third high individual overall in Brown Swiss. Wubbenhorst was eighth high individual overall in Ayrshires and Puttkamer was second high individual overall in Holsteins and Red and White Holsteins.
Lynn Harbaugh, a farmer and short course alumnus from Greenleaf, Wis., coached the team. The Farm and Industry Short Course is a winter program in agriculture that operates from mid-November until the end of March. Dr. Richard Daluge is the director of the program.
