UW-Madison Team Wins Southern Intercollegiate Dairy Cattle Judging Contest For Third Year In A Row
A University of Wisconsin-Madison team scored 2,570 points to finish high team overall for the third year in a row at the Southern Intercollegiate Dairy Cattle Judging Contest, Sept. 28 at the Mid-South Fair in Memphis, Tenn.
The UW-Madison Team 1 scored 2092 points, 56 points ahead of 2nd place University of Tennessee. Eleven national university teams competed. The Badger team was 1st in Holsteins, 2nd in Ayrshires, 2nd in Brown Swiss, 2nd in Jerseys, 2nd in Oral Reasons, and 4th in Guernseys.
Individual awards and team 1 members:
Chad Wethal of Brooklyn, Wis., a junior majoring in dairy science, was high individual overall (711 points), 1st in oral reasons, Brown Swiss and Holsteins, and 4th in Ayrshires.
Kari Behling of Fox Lake, Wis., a sophomore majoring in dairy science and life sciences communication, was 3rd high individual overall and 1st in Jerseys.
Pete Rindal of Fall Creek, Wis., a sophomore majoring in dairy science, was 4th high individual overall, 2nd in Jerseys, and 4th in oral reasons.
Elizabeth Walker of Portage, Wis., a sophomore majoring in secondary education, was 2nd in Holsteins.
The UW-Madison Team 2 placed 3rd team overall (2028 points), and was 1st in Ayrshires, 2nd in Holsteins and 4th in oral reasons.

Kristan Noeldner of Loyal, Wis., a junior majoring in dairy science and agricultural and applied economics, was 5th high individual overall, 1st in Ayrshires, 3rd in Holsteins and 5th in Jerseys.
Jeni Dingbaum of Eastman, Wis., a sophomore majoring in dairy science and life sciences communication.
Andrew Sarbacker of Verona, Wis., a sophomore majoring in dairy science, was 5th in Ayrshires.
Annie Haughian of Rice Lake, Wis., a sophomore majoring in dairy science and life sciences communication, was 5th in Brown Swiss.
Ted Halbach, dairy cattle evaluation instructor at the UW-Madison, and Dave Dickson, emeritus professor of dairy science at the UW-Madison, coached the teams.
