Summer is field day season for the agricultural research stations operated by the University of Wisconsin–Madison’s College of Agricultural and Life Sciences. Over the course of the growing season, the stations will host numerous public events to share research updates and educational information with agricultural professionals, home gardeners and others.

Below is a list of some of this season’s field day offerings. Events are free unless otherwise noted. For a full list of field days and outreach events – that will be continually updated throughout the summer – please visit cals.wisc.edu/fielddays.

Hancock Potato Research Field Day
Thursday, July 9, 1:00 p.m.

Join growers and industry representatives to network and get research updates on potato projects. The event will include field wagon tours, a self-guided tour of facilities and a barbeque chicken dinner. For more information, contact hancock@cals.wisc.edu.

Rhinelander Field Day
Thursday, July 23, 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Rhinelander Agricultural Station, 4181 Camp Bryn Afon Road, Rhinelander, WI 54501
This event features a field wagon tour to give attendees a first-hand look at the station’s research in action. UW experts will share updates on potato breeding research—including the use of remote sensing technology—as well as the latest strategies for managing potato insects and diseases. The program will also include important updates from the Wisconsin Seed Potato Certification program and UW–Madison Extension’s Langlade Agricultural Research Station. The day concludes with lunch and refreshments.

Wisconsin Turfgrass Association Summer Field Day

Commercial Growers of Wisconsin Field Day

This field day, a partnership with the Commercial Growers of Wisconsin, will feature information on plant diseases, the station’s field trails and insect updates for the 2026 season. UW Organic Research Field Day
Tuesday, August 18, 9:30 a.m.– 3:00 p.m.

During tours and talks, attendees will learn about about the latest in organic systems research, including reduced-tillage corn and soybeans, biocontrol agents to manage white mold in soybeans, and on-farm soil health studies. Research will also be shared on ecological intensification practices such as adding cover crops, reducing tillage, and integrating livestock. Hemp Field Day

This field day showcases UW–Madison’s latest hemp research. Presentations will be given by UW faculty, staff and extension specialists on topics including industrial and high cannabinoid variety trials, pest and disease survey results, fertility/cover crop interaction studies, processing demos and more. UW–Madison Agronomy and Soils Field Day

This event features a half-day field-based tour showcasing the latest ongoing trials and research updates from UW–Madison researchers studying grain agronomy, field crop pathology, weed management, soils, forage, and farm economics.
