The University of Wisconsin–Madison will be offering a new short course this winter focused on beekeeping. This three-day program is designed for beginning and intermediate beekeepers interested in building or growing a successful beekeeping business. Participants will gain the practical knowledge and business skills needed to manage healthy hives and create thriving businesses.

The new short course runs February 13–15 at the UW–Madison Division of Extension office located at 3500 University Ave., Madison, WI. The training is hosted by the UW–Madison Department of Entomology, in collaboration with the UW Farm and Industry Short Course and the Wisconsin Honey Producers Association.

Participants will learn about:

• Basic beekeeping practices and bee biology
• Disease management and year-round hive care
• Business and financial planning for building a beekeeping business, including insurance and liability
• Marketing and promotion of honey and wax products as well as supply chain access
• Expanding product lines including regulations and insurance requirements for the sale of non-honeybee products
