UW-Madison experts can discuss U.S. Senate’s food safety bill

The U.S. Senate passed a far-reaching food safety bill today that, if signed into law, will have an enormous impact on our nation’s food safety system.

The following UW-Madison experts can discuss issues related to the bill:

Steve Ingham, professor of food science and former administrator of Wisconsin’s Division of Food Safety at WDATCP, 608-234-7317, scingham@wisc.edu. Ingham can discuss the major components of the bill, implications for the food industry and some of the next steps in the process.

Marianne Smukowski, dairy safety/quality coordinator at the UW-Madison Center for Dairy Research, 608-265-6346, msmuk@cdr.wisc.edu. At the CDR, Smukowski works with cheese and dairy product manufacturers as they implement food safety plans, as well as provides third-party audits. She can discuss how the bill might impact the dairy industry.
