Deadline for Short Course Scholarships is April 1
April 1st is the deadline to apply for more than $130,000 worth of scholarships for the 2008-09 Farm and Industry Short Course at the University of Wisconsin-Madison College of Agricultural and Life Sciences.
The 124-year-old Short Course program offers more than 40 courses in a variety of specialty areas. These include dairy farm management, beef/swine management, farm mechanics, farm service and supply, crops and soils, and for the second year, a green industry track with courses in production landscape construction and greenhouse management. Practical on-the-job experience is available through internships.
Last year 135 students enrolled in the short course program.
A single form serves for applying for both scholarships and admission to the short course program. Application forms and more information are available online at
www.cals.wisc.edu/students/shortCourse/, as well as from high school agriculture instructors, extension agents or from the Short Course Office, 116 Agriculture Hall, UW-Madison, Madison WI 53706.
The application should include a high school transcript and three letters of recommendation.
Most short course applicants qualify for scholarships, which average about $700. Prospective students should also watch for announcements of additional scholarships offered by companies or organizations in their own communities.
