Mark Your Calendar Now For The 2008 Dairy Science Golf Classic

The realities of winter may be just setting in, but UW-Dairy Science would like you to start dreaming about those warmer spring days and their 2008 Golf Classic scheduled for Wednesday, May 14 at the Bridges Golf Course in Madison.

The Golf Classic is a scramble format where each team member plays the ball closest to the hole after each shot. The event is open to the public. A registration fee of $100 per golfer covers 18 holes of golf, cart rental, free lunch and lots of prizes. Day-of-event registrations will be accepted, but pre-registration is recommended.

All proceeds will support the dairy science department”s scholarships and dairy judging and dairy challenge teams.

Event sponsors are currently being sought. Dairy Science is offering a multi-tiered approach to sponsorship, offering several levels for companies or individuals to make a donation. The “Legacy” level recognizes a $5,000 contribution and funds a full student scholarship in the department. The “Chancellor”s Club” level acknowledges support of $2,500 and “Dean”s Club” level identifies $1,000 donors. Another option is an individual hole sponsorship for $250 or $600 (the latter includes a team registration for four golfers).

There will be silent auction and live auctions, featuring a variety of dairy-related items and sports memorabilia. Donations of auction items are welcome and will be accepted until May 7th. Items should have a minimum real value of $25 for the silent auction and $100 for the live auction.

Contributions beyond the actual cost of the golf or any auction item are tax deductible, as allowed by law.

“Its a great day to socialize and have fun, but more importantly, the event directly benefits our students and is an opportunity for individuals and companies to make an investment in the future of the dairy industry,” according to Dr. Ric Grummer UW-Madison Department of Dairy Science Chair.
