Deadline for UW-Madison Farm Short Course Scholarships if April 1

April 1st is the deadline to apply for more than $80,000 worth of scholarships for the 2007-2008 Farm and Industry Short Course at the University of Wisconsin-Madison College of Agricultural and Life Sciences.

The 122-year-old short course program offers more than 40 courses in a variety of specialty areas. These include dairy farm management, beef/swine management, farm mechanics, farm service and supply, crops and soils, and for the second year, a green industry track with courses in production landscape construction and greenhouse management. Practical on-the-job experience is available through internships.

Last year 135 students enrolled in the short course program.

A single form serves for applying for both scholarships and admission to the short course program. Application forms and more information are available online at, as well as from high school agriculture instructors, extension agents or from the Short Course Office, 116 Agriculture Hall, UW-Madison, Madison WI 53706.

The application should include a high school transcript and three letters of recommendation.

Most short course applicants qualify for scholarships, which average about $700. Prospective students should also watch for announcements of additional scholarships offered by companies or organizations in their own communities.
