UW-Madison team takes second at Southwestern Exposition and Livestock Show Intercollegiate Dairy Cattle Judging Contest

One of the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s two teams placed first in oral reasons and second overall in the Southwestern Exposition and Livestock Show Intercollegiate Dairy Cattle Judging Contest held January 15, 2006 in Fort Worth, Tx.

Team member Molly Florent of Marengo, Ill., won third place in the contest and earned first place honors in Oral Reasons. Daniel Bauer of Manawa, Wis., placed sixth in the contest while Jerome Meyer of Elkhorn finished in 15th place.

The second-place UW-Madison team’s three individuals actually had a higher individual point total than first place Purdue University. However, the Fort Worth Contest selects its winner based on team rankings for each breed that combines the scores of a college’s three highest placing individuals in that breed. With a fourth contestant, Purdue was able to edge out the Badger squad by 2 points.

The UW-Madison’s other team placed first in Jerseys and sixth overall. Jeff Brantmeier of Sherwood placed 11th overall and first in Guernseys.
Sixteen university teams competed at the event.
