Cassens receives AMSA International Award
Robert G. Cassens, emeritus professor of meat and animal science (now animal sciences) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, has received the 2005 AMSA International Award. The award was established by the American Meat Science Association to honor an individual who has made internationally recognized contributions to meat science and technology, and who has promoted international activities in the field.
“Cassens has attained a highly regarded international status for both the depth and importance of his research over the past 40 years, and his work to bring the international meat science community closer together has not only impacted the work we do today, but also will influence the next generation of meat scientists,” according to an AMSA statement.
Cassens has worked with 40 graduate students and post-doctoral scientists from 17 countries, in addition to mentoring many more U.S. graduate students and scientists. He has published more than 200 scientific papers and edited three books.
Cassens received the award Aug. 11 at a banquet at the AMSA”s 58th annual Reciprocal Meat Conference in Baltimore, Md.
