Wisconsin Brown Swiss Association announces 2005 loan program
The Wisconsin Brown Swiss Association is offering youth a $500 loan to use toward purchase of a registered Brown Swiss calf. Participants must be between the ages of 10 and 17 as of Jan.1, 2005.
“This is a great opportunity for both youth who currently don”t have Swiss and those that do to have a hands-on project experience,” stated Ted Halbach, UW-Extension dairy youth program specialist. “Dairy projects normally teach kids about animal care and the responsibility associated with that care and showing. This program goes an additional step, in that youth learn about the breed organization as well.
“Brown Swiss breeders should be applauded for their effort to match kids to a calf,” said Halbach. “For some kids this is their first calf; others can use the financial assistance from the Swiss Loan Program to upgrade the quality of their existing project.”
In addition to the loan, a member of the Wisconsin Brown Swiss Association will be available to serve as a mentor to participating youth.
