The UW-Madison Farm and Industry Short Course Dairy Judging team placed third in both the traditional and practical post-secondary two year college contests held Sept. 27 at World Dairy Expo. Members of the traditional team were Cynthia Voeltz of Tilleda, Evan Brinkmeier of Dakota, Ill., Ryan Ullom of Shell Lake, and Danielle Bucholtz of Westfield.
Jim Armbruster and Cheryl Marti coached the Short Course team, which had the highest finish of any Wisconsin team. The teams placing ahead of the Short Course team in the traditional contest were Modesto Jr. College, first; and SUNY-Morrisville, second. Fifteen teams competed.
The Short Course team won the Ayrshire breed and placed among the top in Brown Swiss, Holsteins, Milking Shorthorns, and in Reasons. Cynthia Voeltz placed 7th overall as well as in reasons. The team is comprised of students that will be starting their second year of study in the Farm and Industry Short Course program at UW-Madison this fall. Short Course is a 17-week winter course geared toward students planning to farm or work in agri-business.
