UW Madison Team Sixth At North American International Dairy Cattle Judging Contest
A team of UW-Madison dairy cattle judges placed 6th at the 2002 North American International Livestock Exposition Intercollegiate Dairy Cattle Judging Contest, held Nov. 9 at Louisville, Ky.
The UW-Madison team placed 6th high team overall (2,012 points), 1st in Guernseys, 3rd in Jerseys, 4th in Ayrshires, and 5th in oral reasons. Eighteen national university teams competed. Individual awards and team members:
Denise Zygarlicke of Marshfield, a senior majoring in dairy science, was 2nd High Individual Overall (710 points), 3rd in Holsteins, 4th in Ayrshires and 4th in oral reasons.
Becky Mentink of Waldo, a senior majoring in Dairy Science, was 3rd in Jerseys and 4th in Guernseys.
Sarah Zwald of Hammond, a junior majoring in dairy science and life science communications, was 3rd in Guernseys and 5th in Ayrshires.
Jenny Byl of Grantsburg, a junior majoring in dairy science.
Ted Halbach, dairy cattle evaluation instructor, and Dave Dickson, emeritus professor of dairy science, coached the team.
UW-Madison dairy judges finished the season with three contest wins, including the program”s eighth national championship at the National Intercollegiate Contest.
