Door County 4-H Team Wins National 4-H Dairy Cattle Judging Contest

The Wisconsin 4-H team took first place at the 81st annual national dairy cattle judging contest, held Tuesday, Oct. 1 at World Dairy Expo in Madison.

The Wisconsin team, represented by Door County, placed high team overall with 2,112 points; edging second-place Maryland by 2 points. This marked the third year in a row that a county team representing Wisconsin has won the contest; 29 state 4-H teams competed. The Wisconsin judges placed 1st in Jerseys, 4th in Guernseys, 2nd in Oral Reasons, 3rd in Holsteins and 2nd in Ayrshires. Individual awards and team members:

Brandon Wautier of Brussels was 2nd high individual overall, 1st in Brown Swiss, 7th in oral reasons and 7th in Jerseys.

Matt Wautier of Brussels was 3rd high individual overall, 1st in Holsteins, 1st in Ayrshires, 4th in Jerseys and 8th in oral reasons.

Tony Brey of Sturgeon Bay was 10th high individual overall, 6th in oral reasons and 9th in Jerseys.

Scott Jeanquart of Forestville also competed.

Angie Ulness of Valders coached the team. Door County won the State 4-H Dairy Judging Contest Aug. 7, earning them the opportunity to represent Wisconsin at the National 4-H Dairy Cattle Judging Contest at World Dairy Expo.
