Kalb To Speak On Farm-To-School Programs

Marion Kalb, national Farm-to-School program director with the Community Food Security Coalition, will speak in Madison about linking farmers with schools. Her presentation, “Healthy Farms, Healthy Kids: Building a Sustainable Future in Our Schools,” will take place at the Pres House Monday, May 6 at 2:30 p.m.

Kalb will describe her experience with farm-to-school initiatives around the country. These programs connect schools with local farms and farmers. Such community initiatives seek to strengthen the local farm economy and provide fresh, nutritious food to children through the school lunch program. Farm-to-school programs also help students gain a better understanding of how their food gets from field to table.

Kalb’s visit to Madison is co-sponsored by the University of Wisconsin-Madison Center for Integrated Agricultural Systems and REAP (Research, Education, Action, and Policy on Food Group), a Wisconsin non-profit organization.

The Pres House is located on the UW-Madison campus at 731 State Street, close to the University Bookstore. A reception will follow Kalb”s presentation. The presentation is free and open to the public.
