University Of Wisconsin-Madison Team Wins Category In National Agricultural Academic Competition
A student team representing the University of Wisconsin-Madison won first place in the oral presentation category of the 2001 Academic Quadrathlon. The competition was held during the joint Midwest section annual meeting of the American Society of Animal Science and the American Dairy Science Association, March 19-21 in Des Moines, Iowa.
Team members, all students in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, are Ryan Bragg, Laurie Winkelman, John Dorshorst and Brenda Patton. Their presentation topic addressed the pros and cons of labeling products containing genetically altered food. Team advisor is Terry Jobsis.
In the Academic Quadrathlon students earn points for each correct answer. Students must answer chemistry, anatomy and genetics questions on the production of dairy, beef, swine, sheep, horses and poultry.
Students from 15 universities competed in three other categories of the quadrathlon: written exam, quiz bowl and laboratory practices. APC Company Inc., Intervet, Iowa State University and Interstate Publishers Inc. sponsored the competition.
Kansas State University was the overall contest winner.
