Pumpkin Patch Sprouts At UW Hospital

The great pumpkin (and two pickup loads of pumpkin underlings) arrived Oct. 16 at UW Children”s Hospital and Ronald McDonald House, delivered by Tom Wright and Denise Mueller of the West Madison Agricultural Research Station. The pumpkins – some of which weighed more than 100 pounds – included specimens of most of the 50 varieties grown at the station”s demonstration gardens. Helen Harrison, Extension horticulture specialist, uses the gardens to evaluate varieties for fresh-market growers and home gardeners and to train participants in Cooperative Extension”s Master Gardener Program. James Antonetti of Madison (left) was among the patients who decorated the pumpkins later that day.
